Position: Cook

 

Job Overview:

Responsible for day to day operations in the kitchen, cooking, preparing and planning of food.

Report to Management

 

Job Brief

We are looking for an ambitious chef to prepare, assist and cook delicious dishes in the kitchen. You'll perform routine kitchen tasks such as setting up workstations and ingredients, so that food can be prepared according to recipes.

A great cook will be quick, diligent and willing to improve on the job. You will be deft and able to follow instructions as well as all health and safety rules in the kitchen. You will be part of a great team and also be able to function in a fast-paced, busy café environment.

 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Prepare simple dishes such as Sandwhiches & Salads etc.

•   Follow the prep list created to plan duties

•   Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables etc.

•   Undertake basic cooking duties

•   Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible

•   Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking

•   Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen and in presentable conditions at all times

•   To ensure that the kitchen is being kept clean, tidy and in presentable conditions at all times;

•   Ensure all food and other items are stored properly

•   Perform other kitchen duties as assigned

 

 

Requirements:

•   Proven experience as a cook

•   Manual dexterity able to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils

•   Has a solid understanding in all matters related to the various kitchen section

•   A team player with good communication skills in english

•   Patient with an ability to stay positive under pressure

•   Ensure the dishes are prepared and cooked according to the specific restaurant standard

•   To ensure that any anticipated shortages are communicated promptly to the management

•   Maintain a detailed knowledge of the full menu and be able to explain dish descriptions

•   Ensure all policies, procedures, standards and guidelines are carefully adhered to;
